Ranges from the west coast to northern Natal (Ref. 5578). Sexual segregation may occur on the east coast of South Africa, with breeding females staying more southerly in distribution (Ref. 247). Taken by trawlers and sports anglers in great numbers (Ref. 5578). Unconfrimed reports off southern Africa (Ref. 6871), occurrence needs verification. Also Ref. 6577, 12484, 31367.
